The Old Man and the Sea

After finishing The Boy and the Samurai I started The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. I was able to finish this book in a matter of days because it was a short story. I thought this story was very pointless because this old man went out to sea to catch a fish. When he hooked a fish he had to real it in for days and the fish pulled his small boat very far away from land. So when he was on his way to land many sharks attacked his boat and he was unable to do any thing about it because he lost his spear and knife. So in the end he fished for the same fish for days and it was eaten by sharks. The reason I thought it was pointless was because he ended up right where he started and he suffered so much to catch the fish.

The Boy and the samurai

Before Saru had no one to look up to in his life; but a samurai started coming to the temple he lived in. Usually Saru hated samurai but this samurai acted in a different way and did not look down on anyone, because of this Saru started to respect him. But the samurai was in a horrible position where he could not see his wife, because she was being help prisoner by the emperor. Saru wanted to help this samurai and so did the priest that owned the temple that Saru stayed at. So they created a plan where a friend of Saru, who lives in the palace, would help the samurai’s wife escape. Then they would run away to a temple very far away.
